Recap and Reach Out

The recently concluded elections included a question to the voters in Palm Beach and Lee Counties as to whether or not they wished to approve slot machines at pari-mutuel facilities [dog tracks] located within their respective counties.

In both cases the measure passed quite convincingly. The rationale behind these measures was that they would limit the installation of slot machines to these two specific locations, would be entirely financed without any public or government funding, and would be a major sources of both construction and full time jobs. The voter approval sends a strong message to Tallahassee that a comprehensive gaming plan must be developed for the state and that the public is very much in favor of certain types of gaming at prescribed locations. As the writer of this column I am able to get the facts out to the citizens of Miami Beach.

I am also interested in getting feedback from Miami Beach residents as to their views on gaming inside and outside of our city borders. I look forward to more interaction with the community and to getting a better handle on the gaming future of our city, county, and state.
