Baptist Health South Florida graduated the inaugural class of its Nurse Executive Academy on May 14.

The talent management program was launched in 2010 to reinforce Baptist Health’s goal of developing and promoting nursing leaders from within the organization. The Academy aims to mold the future of Baptist Health by creating a talented pool of candidates for chief nursing officer and other executive positions.

“The Nurse Executive Academy is just one example of how Baptist Health strives to promote exceptional leadership in nursing,” said Deborah S. Mulvihill, MSN, RN, FACHE, Baptist Health’s corporate vice president and chief nursing officer. “We are very proud of our inaugural class and we look forward to seeing the academy graduates continue to succeed at Baptist Health.”

Fifteen nurse leaders were selected from across the organization to make up the academy’s inaugural class. The executive training program includes mentorships, projects and formal classes with participation from Baptist Health executives and managers.

The academy incorporates human resources talent management and leadership development best practices to enhance the participants’ leadership capacity. The academy members also had the opportunity to work on individual career development plans through organizational projects.

“Many of the participants in our Nurse Executive Academy have made great advancements in their careers at Baptist Health,” said Marlly Cadavid, Baptist Health’s director of Nursing Workforce Development and coordinator of the inaugural Nurse Executive Academy. “Seven of our academy graduates have already been promoted to assistant vice president and director positions, which speaks to the caliber of our participants.”

Baptist Health South Florida is the largest faith-based, not-forprofit healthcare organization in the region. Baptist Health includes Baptist Hospital, South Miami Hospital, Baptist Children’s Hospital, Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Mariners Hospital, Homestead Hospital, Doctors Hospital, West Kendall Baptist Hospital and Baptist Outpatient Services.
