Sponges come in several varieties. Some are natural and come from the sea. They are usually large and soft with tremendous capacity and absorbency. Others are synthetic. They come in different sizes with different degrees of absorbency.
Human beings share some of the same characteristics the sponge possesses. They are capable of absorbing and soaking- up many things in their environments and in their lives. And, just like a sponge, human beings can reach their capacity.
You may reach a point where you cannot absorb anymore. You cannot take in one more thing in your life. When a sponge has absorbed too much it becomes heavy and useless. If you try to use it the excess liquid seeps out. When you become too full of things, you may become heavy and useless. Your own liquid may seep out as tears.
Unlike a sponge you can control how much you let in and absorb in your life. You need to recognize your capacity and control the input. No one can tell you when you have had too much. Only you know. Every sponge and every individual has a different capacity.
If you find yourself crying, you may be too full. If you feel overwhelmed, you may be too full. If you feel depressed, anxious or fearful you may be too full. If you forget important things or appointments you may be too full. If you have difficulty concentrating and staying focused or making decisions, you are probably too full. You need to wring yourself out and lessen the overload. Do things that take the pressure off.
You can let a sponge sit for a while and it will dry out and be useful again. You should also sit for a while and just rest. Go to another place mentally. Whenever you change your thoughts, it changes your emotions and feelings. Take charge and make some changes in your life. Put up some barriers. Don’t let everyone and everything in. Control what you absorb.
